What delegates will walk away with and be able to implement
A compact, reusable thinking framework that can be applied immediately in analysis, challenge, ALCO discussion and strategy development.
| Frame
Define the real problem, distinguish signal from noise and identify the decision that must be made. |
Challenge
Expose the assumptions carrying the conclusion and identify evidence that would support or overturn them. |
| Explore
Create and compare alternatives by reframing the problem, reversing assumptions or changing constraints. |
Anticipate
Map likely responses, second-order effects and feedback loops. |
| Stress
Use pre-mortems and reverse stress thinking to identify failure pathways and unintended consequences. |
Reassess
Set monitoring indicators and explicit conditions that would trigger a change of course. |
Summary of course content
Module 1: Understand Reality: Clear thinking; problem framing; signal versus noise; material assumptions; incomplete information; monitoring after action.
Module 2: Create Options: Creative thinking; reframing; assumption challenge; reversing the question; changing constraints; generating credible alternatives.
Module 3: Shape Outcomes: Strategic thinking; stakeholder responses; incentives; second-order effects; feedback loops; strategic interaction and constructive dissent.
Module 4: Prevent Failure: Inverse thinking; pre-mortems; reverse stress testing; unintended consequences; failure pathways; warning indicators and triggers.
How the learning works
A recurring fictional Treasury Risk “War Room” connects the modules. Delegates make decisions, receive new information, observe consequences and revisit assumptions. Short conceptual interventions, practical scenarios, team exercises, structured debate, peer challenge and reflection turn the theory into usable habits.
Course formatFour highly interactive half-day modules. Maximum 20 participants. No pre-course academic reading required. Representative applications include liquidity and funding, ALM, NMD assumptions, FTP incentives, stress testing, risk appetite and ALCO decision-making. |
